Candidate Endorsements 2024

The PleasantonVoters election committee is pleased to announce its local candidate endorsements for the November 2024 election.  We asked all mayoral and city council candidates to complete a detailed questionnaire and reviewed available candidate websites and voting records (if applicable.)  We respect all candidates for their commitment to the process and for their courage to run for office.

Karla Brown, Mayor

  • Karla Brown has worked tirelessly to maintain the high quality of life that drew us all to Pleasanton.  In closing her second term as Mayor, she, along with the rest of the Pleasanton City

  • Council, face the challenge of an extended budget deficit.  Karla is committed to developing a sustainable city budget that will maintain as many services as possible.  Under her leadership, she regulates respectful dialogue amongst her fellow council members as they delve into the details of staff reports, ask the hard questions, and always bases her votes on the greater good of Pleasanton residents.

  • As a member of the Tri-Valley Water Round Table and as the Pleasanton liaison to Zone 7, she serves as a powerful voice for safe drinking water for Pleasanton.  Karla supports our outstanding police officers and periodical reviews of the policies required to keep us safe.  She has the best interest of Pleasanton residents at the forefront when it comes to health, safety, education, and fiscal efficiency.  For more information, please visit www.Vote4Karla.com

Valerie Arkin for Pleasanton City Council, District 2

  • City Councilmember Valerie Arkin seeks a second term on the Pleasanton City Council, now representing District 2, which encompases the northeast area of Fairlands, Birdland, the Gates, and neighborhoods along Stoneridge Drive.  Valerie is also committed to fiscal responsibility and arriving at a balanced budget that maintains essential community services.  She is intent on investigating new revenue streams for the city, and maximizing the existing budget to the fullest extent.

  • Public safety is also at the top of her agenda and Valerie is a strong proponent of an alternative mental health response unit to support the police on calls that require specialist intervention.

  • With 12 years as a Pleasanton Unified School Board trustee, Valerie Arkin brings a wealth of information to the city council that further strengthens the relationship between the city and the schools. For more information, visit www.VoteValerieArkin.com

Matt Gaidos for Pleasanton City Council, District 4

  • Matt Gaidos is a lifelong Pleasanton resident who currently chairs the Pleasanton Planning Commission and also served on the Housing Commission for five years.  For the past 16 years, he has served as a Deputy City Attorney for Alameda County.  Matt is deeply invested in Pleasanton and  knows the type of city he wants his family and neighbors to experience.  He is prepared to find practical solutions to meet Pleasanton's ever-changing needs, while still preserving its character.

  • Matt's expert level of understanding of what promotes and distracts from public safety will offer a new valuable insight to the City Council.  He supports measured development and the retention of open hillside space, and a fiscal conservative approach to the city's financial infrastructure.

  • Matt has four school-aged children in PUSD schools and has sat on various charitable boards.  Learn more about Matt at www.vote4gaidos.com
