Speak Up About the East Side

This Tuesday!

Hundreds of residents throughout Pleasanton have come forward with their concerns about the planning process for the East Pleasanton Specific Plan (EPSP), the 1100-acre parcel between Pleasanton and Livermore.

There is still time to write and most importantly, speak up, face-to-face with your elected representatives before they vote at the City Council Meeting on Tuesday night, March 3rd.

Do you want Ponderosa Home Builders, their paid consultants and the Planning Commission to be the main drivers of the planning process on the EPSP?

What’s the rush to plan without the facts?

  1. Pleasanton won’t have its state housing requirements until September 2021, essential information for planning the east side and ALL city housing needs. Why plan for 1,900 new homes homes now?
  2. Pleasanton’s General Plan, a decade in the making, calls for significant resident input in the planning of the East Side. This is something the council initially conceded to in 2015 when it passed a motion to let residents vote on when to begin planning the site prior to the next state housing cycle.
  3. The Council abandoned its 2015 efforts to launch the east side planning as a result of the recent historic drought. We just passed the driest February since 1864 and do not know if we are entering yet another extended drought.

We favor an objective and unbiased planning process that takes into consideration the facts and the entire community’s needs. Pleasanton residents should be allowed to take an active part in a planning process that doesn’t waste precious tax dollars and time on a premature and biased planning process. We welcome a sustainable, mixed-use master plan that doesn’t adversely impact the residents when the time is right.

SPEAK UP NOW!

March 3, Tuesday, 7:00pm Council Chambers, 200 Old Bernal Ave., Pleasanton

We support a balance of jobs to housing so there is NO need for the City Council to rush to plan the EPSP now.
Come to the meeting and email your concerns to the City Council at citycouncil@cityofpleasantonca.gov

DEVELOPER LOBBIES COUNCIL TO PLAN EASTSIDE

Pleasanton Residents get ready for another push to “Plan” for potentially the BIGGEST residential development in the history of Pleasanton! The East Pleasanton Specific Plan (EPSP) is in the quarry area between Pleasanton and Livermore, east of Valley Ave. and north of Stanley Blvd. In 2015 residents emphatically opposed 1300 homes on the East Side. Residents packed 3 different Townhall Meetings demanding the project be stopped. Ultimately the City Council (in a 4-1 vote) halted the planning. Now we may be looking at approx. 1900 houses! What’s the rush to plan now? The City has met all of its current regional housing requirements. The new allocations for 2022-23 RHNA have not been released.

This Tuesday the City Council votes on whether Ponderosa Home Builder’s consultants and the Planning Commission will drive the planning process on the EPSP. We want YOU, Pleasanton residents, to have opportunities to weigh-in on the planning process at Townhall Meetings, emails to the Council and speaking at City Council meetings. Furthermore, our Council needs to be an integral part of the process primarily because the Planning Commission is an appointed body, not accountable to the voters.

The current zoning for the area is “light industrial" perfect for a business park and job center to support city services. Residents can live and work in Pleasanton. Changing zoning to accommodate 1900 housing units on the East Side comes with significant impacts and costs to our residents!  The Council needs to know current residents will pay the biggest price for a plan that doesn’t reflect the needs or wishes of the community, and it undermines the City’s own General Plan.

Remember, as a Pleasanton resident, you are the top stakeholder when it comes to planning for Pleasanton’s future!
